1. Why is the lawyer sent to New Mullion ? What does he first think about the place ? ( वकील को न्यू मुलियन क्यों भेजा जाता है ? वह उस जगह के बारे में शुरू में क्या सोचता है ? )
Ans. The lawyer was appointed a junior assistant clerk in a big law firm . The firm sent him to serve summons in New Mullion to a man called Oliver Lutkins . He was needed in the court in connection with a case . He was needed as a witness . The lawyer was happy to go to the county because he was sick of the city life . He thought that New Mullion would be a peaceful and lively place .
2. Who be friends him ? Where does he take him ? ( उसके साथ दोस्ती कौन करता है ? वह उसको कहाँ ले जाता है ? )
Ans . On reaching New Mullion , he met a hack driver at the station . He befriended the lawyer . He took him round the whole village in search of Oliver Lutkins .
3. What does he say about Lutkins ? ( वह लुटकिंस के बारे में क्या कहता है ? )
Ans . The hack driver tells the lawyer that Oliver Lutkins is fond of the game of Poker . He never pays good at deceiving people . anybody a cent . He is not really bad , but it is very hard to make him part with his money . He is good at deceived people.

Ans , Bill tells the lawyer , that Lutkins might have gone to his mother's farm . His mother is a real terror . She is nine feet tall and four feet thick . She is as quick as a cat . Lutkins must have gone to hide himself behind her mother .

Ans . No , the narrator could not serve the summas because he could not find out Oliver Lutkins in the whole village . So he returned back to the city .

Ans . The hack driver was Oliver Lutkins himself .

Ans . When the lawyer reached New Mullion , Bill did not know that he was searching for Lutkins . He came to know of it when the lawyer told him that he wanted to meet Lutkins . The hack driver was Lutkins himself . So he planned to make fool of the lawyer .
2. Lutkins openly takes the lawyer all over the village . How is it that no one lets out the secret ? ( Hint : notice that the hack driver asks the lawyer to " keep out of sight behind him " when they go into Fritz's . Can you find other such subtle ways in which Lutkins manipulates the tour ? Ans . Hack driver was Lutkins himself . But he did not let the lawyer know the least he was Lutkins himself . Whenever he took the lawyer in search of Lutkins , he kept the lawyer behind him . He told him that Lutkins would run away seeing the sight of a man wearing fashionable clothes from the city . Therefore , it would be safe if he kept himself behind him . It this way , he took the lawyer all over the village and manipulated the tour in subtle ways . He took lunch with the lawyer on a hilltop and took him to his own farm to introduce him with his mother .
3 . Why do you think Lut kin's neighbours were anxious to meet the lawyer ? ( आपके विचार से लुटकिंस के पड़ोसी वकील से मिलने के लिए आतुर क्यों थे ? )
Ans . Lutkins had befooled the lawyer . He took him all over the village to his neighbours . They all had enjoyed the fun . But Lutkin's neighbours had missed to meet him . So they were very anxious to meet the lawyer the next day .
4. After his first day's experience with the hack driver the lawyer thinks of returning to New Mullion to practice law . Do you think he would have reconsidered this idea after his second trip . ? Ans . After his first visit to New Mullion , the young lawyer found the hack driver and other villagers simple - hearted and well - behaved . He was greatly impressed by the hack driver . He found him very helpful . So he thought to return to New Mullion to practice law there . But on his second visit he was totally disillusioned . He found that the hack - driver had befooled him . He found the people there all cunning . So , I think he would have reconsidered his idea of returning to New Mullion.
5 . Do you think the lawyer was gullible ? How could he have avoided being taken for a ride ? ( क्या आप सोचते हैं कि वकील आसानी से बुद्ध बनाए जा सकने वाला व्यक्ति था ? वह अपने आपको मूर्ख बनने से कैसे रोक सकता था । )
Ans . The lawyer was very young . He had no experience of dealing with people . That was why he was made a gullible by villagers , and particularly the hack driver . He could have avoided being fooled if he had told the hack driver that he himself would find out Lutkins . He should not have remained behind the hack driver . He should not have believed everything the hack driver had told him . He should have asked other villagers also about Lutkins .
