Part I
1. How is Ausable different from other secret agents ? ( ऑसबल अन्य जासूसों से कैसे भिन्न है ? )
Ans . Generally secret agents are strong and smart persons . They carry pistols with them and wear black glasses . They have been to parties where beatiful women slip messages in their hands . But Ausable is totally different . He is a fat fellow . He lives in a gloomy French hotel room . There is no pistol with him . Thus , Ausable is different from other secret agents .

Ans. Max got into Ausable's room by opening the door with a pass key .

Ans . Ausable says that Max has entered his room through a balcony outside the window .

1 . “ Ausable did not fit any description of a secret agent Fowler had ever read . " What do secret agents in books and films look like , in your opinion ? Discuss in groups or in class some stories or movies featuring spies , detectives and secret agents , and compare their appearance with that of Ausable in this story . ( You may mention characters from fiction in languages other than English . In English fiction you may have come across Sherlock Holmes , Hercule Poirot , or Miss Marple . Ans . We see and read detective stories and movies . There fore it is easy to recognise a detective by his features and dresses . Generally , a detective wears a long coat , a hat and dark glasses . He is strong and smart . But Ausable as a detective was quite different . He did not look like a detective by his outward appearance and dress . He did not look mysterious like a detective . Nor did he wear clothes like a detective . He was a fat fellow .

2. How does Ausable manage to make Max believe that there is a balcony attached to his room ? Look back at his detailed description of it . What makes it a convincing story ? Ans . When Ausable sees Max in his hotel room , he says that he is going to raise devil with the management of the hotel . He says this in a convincing manner . He talls Max that he is the second person who has entered his room through the balcony outside the window . But Max says that he has entered the room by opening the door with a pass key . There is darkness of night around the window of the room . Max is convinced that there is a balcony . He says that if he knew about it , he could avoid some trouble .

3. Looking back at the story , when do you think Ausable thought up his plan for g.tting rid of Max ? Do you think he had worked out his plan in detail right from the beginning ? Or did he make up a plan taking advantage of events as they happened ? Ans . Ausable had no planning in the beginning . When he found Max in his room , pointing an automatic pistol at him , he used the benefit of the presence of his mind . First he convinced Max that there was a balcony outside his window . Then he made plans as time went by taking advantage of the events as they happened . When the waiter knocked at the door , Ausable told Max that it must be the police and if they see Max into the room , they would shoot him . At this , Max got frightened . When the knocking at the door grew louder and louder , Max jumped from the window and died at the spot . In this way . , Ausable got rid of Max .
शुरू में औसेबल की कोई योजना नहीं थी। जब उसने मैक्स को अपने कमरे में पाया, उस पर एक स्वचालित पिस्तौल की ओर इशारा करते हुए, उसने अपने दिमाग की उपस्थिति का लाभ उठाया। पहले उसने मैक्स को आश्वस्त किया कि उसकी खिड़की के बाहर एक बालकनी है। फिर उसने समय बीतने के साथ-साथ घटनाओं का लाभ उठाते हुए योजनाएँ बनाईं। जब वेटर ने दरवाजा खटखटाया, तो ऑसेबल ने मैक्स से कहा कि यह पुलिस होगी और अगर वे मैक्स को कमरे में देखते हैं, तो वे उसे गोली मार देंगे। इस पर मैक्स घबरा गया। दरवाजा खटखटाने की आवाज और तेज हुई तो मैक्स खिड़की से कूद गया और उसकी मौके पर ही मौत हो गई। इस तरह । , औसेबल ने मैक्स से छुटकारा पा लिया।
